Festival Tips
Pre-Festival Guide
-
Choose the right clothes & shoes → Wear comfortable, breathable clothes and athletic or trekking shoes that can handle mud, are lightweight, and have soft soles to prevent foot pain. (Rested feet are a must at a festival!)
-
Always carry a bumbag → Pack essentials like water, sunscreen, a solar power bank, and electrolyte sachets. Bring disposable toilet seat covers because finding a clean restroom will be tough.
For the ladies, Liakara has the smartest solution for festival toilets, a Female Urinal Funnel that fits inside your bumbag! And, of course, don’t forget rave sunglasses. -
Never go alone → Festivals are always better with friends. Make a group and agree on a meeting point in case you get lost because:
- Signal reception is usually bad at festivals.
- The music is loud, making it hard to communicate.
- There are thousands of people, so finding each other can be difficult.
-
Familiarize yourself with the festival grounds → Know where the first aid stations and emergency exits are.
-
Eat enough carbohydrates before the festival to keep you going, and bring a small snack in case food isn’t available (unlikely, but you never know).
-
Plan which DJ sets you want to attend so you don’t miss your favorites.
-
If you're camping, make sure you lock your tent with a proper security lock (not one with a code like "0000"). Never leave your ID, money, or valuables in the tent.
Before leaving, set up your sleeping space—trust me, after all that dancing and walking, you’ll be too exhausted to do it later. - Extra: Bring a Folding fan | bucket hat | phone safety strap
Feel It with Energy & Safety
How much can you boost dopamine & serotonin without doing much? (Based on research)
-
Take 10 deep, continuous breaths through your nose and exhale through your mouth. (Owner Liakara: I’ve tried this myself, and I can confirm—it works!)
-
Smile to yourself for no reason—your serotonin levels will subconsciously skyrocket. Now that you’ve read this, try smiling and judge for yourself if it actually works.
-
Drink water regularly → Yes, you’ll be drinking alcohol, but remember: alcohol + dancing + sun = dehydration. Stay safe by balancing it with water.
-
If you feel anxious or overwhelmed, take a break → Step into a quiet corner, take deep breaths, and observe your surroundings until you feel better.
-
Learn to say NO → If someone offers you something you don’t want, don’t be afraid to refuse. Your safety is the priority. Never even think about trying any illegal substances—it’s just not worth it!
-
Protect your hearing → Festival music can reach levels that damage your ears. Wear rave earplugs, especially if you like being right at the front.
What to Watch Out For & How to Stay Safe
-
Never leave your drink unattended → Keep it with you or trust only close friends to watch over it.
-
Beware of pickpockets → Use a money belt or hidden pockets for your cash. Don’t carry too much money with you.
-
If someone makes you uncomfortable, leave → You’re not obligated to stay in a situation where you don’t feel safe. Let your friends or security staff know.
Yes, festivals have a strong sense of unity, but bad actors exist everywhere. -
If you see someone in danger, don’t ignore them → Festivals are about community. If someone seems to be in trouble, alert your friends and act accordingly.
Closing the Festival Experience the Right Way
-
Ensure safe transportation → If you’re driving, rest before getting behind the wheel. If you feel tired, don’t drive—take a power nap.
If you're returning with a group, stay in touch until everyone gets home safely.
If you're staying at the festival, make sure you have a good airbed and pillow—a comfortable night’s sleep is crucial for enjoying the next day.
Never go to sleep if someone from your group is still missing! -
Take care of your body → After hours of dancing and partying, a proper meal, stretching, and a good sleep are exactly what you need for the next day.
-
If you feel emotional lows after the festival, don’t ignore them → The "post-festival blues" are real. Talk to your friends, share memories, and start planning the next festival to keep the excitement alive!
